Dear Colleagues,

I know how hard each of you has been working since we began our COVID-19 response a year ago. Your dedication to our mission and those we serve has shined.

Throughout this response period, we have encouraged you to take your accrued vacation time, and many of you have. It is important to use your vacation time to benefit your overall well-being. However, the pandemic has caused many disruptions, including the ability of some to take their full vacation allotment due to increased workload or other staffing needs.

For non-health care areas, we will extend the deadline to use your accrued vacation time set to expire June 30, 2021, until March 31, 2022. UK HealthCare operates on a different vacation accrual cycle and is communicating with health care employees about their vacation usage.

For employees who retire or leave the university, we will continue our policy of paying out a maximum of one year’s worth of vacation accruals.

We continue to encourage you to take vacation time when you are able. Supervisors should continue to approve vacation requests whenever possible and respect employees’ time away from work.

Human Resources has more information about this one-time extension.

Thank you again for all you do for our university.
