Joseph Monroe
Chief, University of Kentucky Police Department
Joe Monroe is the Chief of Police for the University of Kentucky Police Department, overseeing and managing all safety, crisis management, and preparedness at the university and UK HealthCare. Chief Monroe, who has served as the UK Chief of Police since 2009, is the longest-serving police chief at the UK Police Department since its inception in 1972.
With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Chief Monroe is an internationally recognized leader in safety and crisis management. He is an instructor and consultant for organizations across the country and frequently speaks at seminars and conferences on leadership and emerging security technology. Among his many accomplishments, Chief Monroe has notably participated in Interpol’s Project Stadia with the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France.
Chief Monroe’s philosophy is centered around positively transforming the culture of law enforcement. He sits on national committees and task forces dedicated to law enforcement issues, all while serving the mission of the university and leading the UK Police Department to keep our campus community safe.
